Welcome to Process Press Ltd

Once upon a time Robert Young set up Free Association Books. After many years it was taken over by others. Process Press Ltd. remains, and Robert Young's original aims continue. He wanted to produce high-quality, original books, at reasonable prices about how human nature can be understood through an academic and psychological lens.

Robert Maxwell Young died in 2019, very soon after this website was set up. He loved the internet and was very excited that the Press was slowly moving into action once again. Our online presence is in the process of growing and more of our available books are going to be added.

We are very excited to have recently published the paperback of Roger Smith's The Sense of Movement An Intellectual History and a new edition of Peter Barham's Closing the Asylum: The Mental Patient in Modern Society, both of which our available in the store.

Em Farrell is the current managing director of the Press. She is a psychotherapist and author with a specific interest in Eating Disorders. The first book of her series The ABC of Eating Disorders, A is for Anorexia will soon be available on the site. She is currently working on the second book of the series, B is for Bulimia.

Our other acting directors are Dr. Les Levidow and Kean Birch. Les Levidow has an interest in sociotechnical innovations and is a research fellow at the Open University, whilst Kean Birch holds a post at York University in Toronto. These two directors are responsible for the production of Science As Culture, a journal exploring how endeavours in science, medicine and technology shape the values which contend for influence over the wider society. Science As Culture is published in association with Taylor & Francis.
